Òkun is an Afro-Brazilian visual artist based in Goiânia, Brazil. Her multidisciplinary practice combines paint, illustration and digital collage to create layered, dynamic pieces. Her artwork addresses themes of spirituality, memory, ancestry and belonging. Ritualism and healing place a pivotal role in her work, and she is particularly inspired by the Afro-Brazilian religion, Umbanda.
Born in 2000, she is currently studying for her undergraduate degree in Visual Arts at the Federal University of Goiás. She is a member of the collective, National TROVOA, a movement of non-white curators, artists and art educators in Brazil. She is also a researcher at the Nucleus of Autobiographical Artistic Practices. Òkun’s work has been featured in national exhibitions such as “Crônicas Cariocas” in the Museu de Arte do Rio, Rio de Janeiro (2021) and “Que nascerá!” in SP-arte Viewing Room (2021).
