Diana Rosa

Diana Rosa is an established Cuban painter based in Canada. Her childhood in Cuba shaped her perspective on nature and how humans interact with land, animals and each other. This influenced her Naïve Folk-Art style which explores questions of identity, love, relationship and environment in our society. Rosa incorporates elements of the Cubist and Surrealist schools into her artwork, creating stand-out, signature pieces that revel in freedom of movement and spontaneity.

Her paintings often have strong autobiographical elements and mix realism with fantasy. Her unique artworks combine keen observation with a free and honest style of painting; uninhibited by technical draughtsmanship, her works have a visual ‘pop’ through her bold use of colour and flat layering. She is greatly influenced by the modern masters from Cezanne and Henri Matisse to Frida Kahlo and Henri Rousseau.

Diana Rosa received her Bachelor of Art in Art History at the Oriente University, Cuba (1989-1994) and worked as a curator at the Contemporary Art Centre in Holguin, Cuba (1994-2000). Her work has been featured in prizes, publications and exhibitions across North America, the UK and Asia.
